Channing Tatum is set to earn another title: Sexiest Dad Alive.
The actor and his wife Jenna Dewan-Tatum ”are pleased to announce that they are expecting the birth of their first child next year,” reps for the couple confirm to PEOPLE exclusively.
Crowned PEOPLE’s Sexiest Man Alive in November, the Magic Mike star admitted he and the American Horror Story: Asylum actress, both 32, had babies on the brain, adding a family wasn’t too far off in their future. “I’m ready; I think she’s ready,” Tatum told PEOPLE recently.
“The first number that pops into my head is three, but I just want one to be healthy and then we’ll see where we go after that.”
Left up to Tatum, the couple — who wed in Malibu in 2009 — would be going the distance … all the way into the double digits. “It’s really easy for us guys to say, ‘I want like 15 kids,’” he noted. “Jenna will be like, ‘Well you better get another wife!’”
You can’t just hang around being sexy all day. At some point, you have to get back to work.
So it is for Channing Tatum, PEOPLE’s Sexiest Man Alive, who was spotted Wednesday with a brealy recognizable Mark Ruffalo on the Pittsburgh set of the movie Foxcatcher.
Tatum, 32, and Ruffalo, 45, play brothers Mark and David Schultz in the film, which is based on the real-life story of U.S. Olympic wrestler David’s murder at the hands of team sponsor John du Pont of the famed du Pont family.
The serious role is stretching Tatum’s abilities. “It’s going to be the hardest acting challenge I’ve had to date,” the actor, who plays Mark Schultz, recently told the Los Angeles Times of the movie.
“It’s a bit of a weird science experiment to put these guys up on the screen, because no one really understands what happened or why [the murder] happened.”
Amanda Seyfried has worked with a lot of good-looking men, but there’s one in particular who rises to the top of her list.
“Channing [Tatum] was amazing. He’s a superstar,” the actress, 27, tells the January issue of InStyle about PEOPLE’s 2012 Sexiest Man Alive.
Seyfried, who starred opposite Tatum in 2010′s Dear John, is well-aware of her former costar’s appeal.
“Everybody wants to have sex with him. And the only person he wants to have sex with is his wife, Jenna [Dewan-Tatum]. He’s the most loyal husband,” she says.
But while Tatum and Dewan-Tatum have managed to find marital bliss in spite of being in the spotlight, Seyfried admits she’s not as lucky.
How will PEOPLE’s Sexiest Man Alive Channing Tatum spend Christmas this year?
Having dance-off with his wife, Jenna Dewan-Tatum, of course.
“We’ll be playing the Xbox Kinect 4 Dance Central 3,” Dewan-Tatum told PEOPLE on Thursday. “We get very competitive when it comes to video games, but this one in particular we’re going to have a lot of fun with.”
Dewan-Tatum, who costarred with her now-husband in Step Up in 2006, plans to give him a run for his money in the dance-competition game. “I’m hoping that I will be able to say I kicked his butt,” she said, “but we’ll see.”
The game will be just one of the gifts Dewan-Tatum, who attended the Microsoft All Access Holiday Party in L.A. on Thursday, has in mind for her tough-to-shop-for husband.
“It gets harder and harder every year,” she said. “He gets everything that he wants. He sees something and he buys it. I need some ideas!”
At least they have their travel plans sorted. “Last year we were with my side of the family,” she said, “so this year we’ll be with his side in the south and hopefully sneak a little vacation time in there, too.”
Their destination of choice? “We are so last minute, but I want to be somewhere warm. I love snowy vacations, but this time I’m feeling warmth.”
And perhaps they’ll finally get a moment to celebrate Channing’s Sexiest Man Alive title since Dewan-Tatum says they were both working when the issue hit stands.
“I am so proud of him,” she adds. “He gets really embarrassed talking about it, but he thinks it’s awesome. And I talk about it enough for him, so it’s all good!”
Before you start hyperventilating at that headline, nobody said anything about quitting. But after a year that saw him explode onto the A-list with a hat trick of hits — The Vow, 21 Jump Street, and Magic Mike — Channing Tatum says he’s planning on taking a break from acting next year to focus on finding a project to direct with his production partner (and Magic Mike screenwriter) Reid Carolin. “[Reid and I] have about three to four ideas that we love that are all in the hopper. By the end of next year, we’re going to shut things down and write the first thing that we’re going to direct,” says Tatum, who has been developing a Magic Mike sequel and an Evel Knievel biopic with Carolin. “We’re going to be like, alright, no more acting parts for a minute, let’s take a few and really get caring about that section of our career.”
You can’t blame the guy for wanting a breather. Tatum earned a spot on EW’s Entertainers of the Year list for being one of 2012′s best and most tireless actors, starring in five movies in 2012. And he’s got at least another four lined up for 2013, including the medical thriller Side Effects (directed by Steven Soderbergh), the action spectacular White House Down, and the new Bennett Miller drama Foxcatcher. “I love the steps that I’ve taken acting-wise. That has been a wild sort of exploration,” he says. “But I don’t want to just keep putting [directing] off for these fun and incredible opportunities.”
While he might not have a film school education, Tatum says he and Carolin have already spent the last few years learning the craft from the best in the business, especially Magic Mike director Soderbergh. “I don’t think Reid and I would have the balls to try to make a movie without learning what we did from Soderbergh and [assistant director] Greg Jacobs,” he says. “It was like a crazy crash course Cliff Notes on directing and how to make movies, literally get them done. We had a Matrix-style download, like a plug in the back of the head and bloop! I know Kung Fu now.”
Each year, as dictated by a lost commandment obtained exclusively by People magazine, only one male can be named the Sexiest Man Alive. If any man would like to challenge People’s selection, he will have to do so in a Sexiest Man Alive–Off forum, judged by George Clooney, Brad Pitt, and Denzel Washington—and covered exclusively in a special follow-up issue of People magazine. So imagine our piqued interest when The People’s Daily, a Chinese magazine, dared to identify North Korean leader Kim Jong-un as the Sexiest Man Alive 2012 not even two weeks after Channing Tatum—a man who earned that title fair and square by pelvic-thrusting to the beat of “It’s Raining Men” in Magic Mike—was also named Sexiest Man Alive 2012. Would the unlikely duo have to choreograph their own patriotic strip sequences, with the more impressive number earning either Channing Tatum or Kim Jong-un the title? And consequently, would a win for Kim Jong-un mean that he could transition out of politics and into Hollywood buddy comedies as he has always dreamed?
Alas, we will not have to watch Kim Jong-un tear away a cheesy police-officer uniform or skid across a greased club floor wearing only a leather collar, because the Internet has keenly deduced that The People’s Daily editors did not even vote before announcing Kim Jong-un as the Sexiest Man Alive and compiling a 55-photo layout of the pudgy Supreme Leader to prove that fact. Instead, they mistakenly picked up a story from The Onion, whose wholly satirical nature was apparently lost in translation. Sadly quoting the U.S. weekly, The People’s Daily explains Kim’s unexpected appeal: “With his devastatingly handsome, round face, his boyish charm, and his strong, sturdy frame, this Pyongyang-bred heartthrob is every woman’s dream come true.”
Although Kim Jong-un has not commented on this highly embarrassing matter, sources say that he certainly would not have botched his sexiness quotient in a People cover story by oversharing about his skunked dogs.

Yes, he was a stripper. Yes, he was in Step Up—and Step Up 2: The Streets. But after a year like this, when he showed not just his abs and his glutes but his smarts and his inner Stanislavsky, it’s time to give Channing Tatum his due. Meet America’s newest bona fide movie star
It’s about two in the afternoon when I finally see the day starting to wear on Channing Tatum. They’re setting up the next shot for his movie, White House Down, and Channing is sitting in a director’s chair wearing a wife-beater and some pants, plus a bloody gash on his arm and some spray-on movie soot. (His hair looks marvelous.)
The movie is basically Die Hard in the White House. It’s the kind of movie in which Channing shoots everything “except for maybe a Javelin missile. But the president might get to shoot a missile, I’m not saying.” They’re filming today outside Montreal, at a driving range housed in an enormous inflatable bubble. The turf of the range has been covered by a vast carpeting of actual sod, on top of which are cameras and lights, crashed helicopters, fire engines, ambulances, and the entire back facade of the White House, rebuilt to scale, with some gashes in the pillars.

He may have bared (almost) all of that incredibly chiseled body in this year’s Magic Mike but 2012′s Sexiest Man Alive Channing Tatum was still modest when he heard the news.
“My first thought was, ‘Y’all are messing with me,’” says Tatum, who married actress Jenna Dewan-Tatum in 2009. “I told Jenna after we’d been in the bathtub washing our dogs because they’d gotten skunked.”
Says the actor: “She was like, ‘What?’”
“Yeah, she calls me [the Sexiest Man Alive] now,” he adds. And who can blame her?
Her Alabama-bred heartthrob of a husband is also a sculptor who quotes Edgar Allan Poe, loves to give her massages and can’t wait to start their family. “I’m ready; I think she’s ready,” Tatum, 32, says. “The first number that pops into my head is three, but I just want one to be healthy and then we’ll see where we go after that.”
“It’s really easy for us guys to say, ‘I want like 15 kids,’” he continues. “Jenna will be like, ‘Well you better get another wife!’”
Currently training to play an Olympic athlete in next year’s Foxcatcher, Tatum is all heart and muscle at 195 pounds. “I like to be lean. If I get too bulky I can’t move well and I like to move,” he says. “When I’m not training, I get really round and soft.”
Which is just fine by his wife. “People know him to be fun and sexy, but they don’t know how emotionally deep and spiritually open he is,” says Dewan-Tatum, 31. “He is such an open-hearted person; what you see is what you get.”
